October is Adopt a Dog Month! Yay! Here are some great rescues right in Portland that you can look into over the next few weeks to find your canine soulmate.

Animal Aid, Inc.

  • Private, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue located in Portland, OR
  • Mission: Reduce animal birth rates and suffering through education, assistance to the community, and finding permanent homes for animals.
  • Dogs are housed in foster homes by volunteers
  • Primarily supports dogs and cats

 

Dead Dog Walking Pit Bull Rescue

  • Private, non-profit 501 (c)(3) no-kill rescue located in Dalles, OR
  • Mission: To help area animal controls, other rescues groups, and stray animals find loving, permanent homes.
  • Dogs are housed in foster homes by volunteers
  • Primarily supports homeless pit bulls but does have mixes and other dogs

Family Dogs New Life

  • Private, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue located in Portland, OR
  • Mission: To reduce the number of dogs being euthanized.
  • Dogs are housed in the organization’s own cage free facility and interact similar to a doggie daycare.
  • Supports all types of dogs regardless of age, breed or history.

The Pixie Project

  • Private, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue located in Portland, OR
  • Mission: To support the underfunded, understaffed, and overcrowded animal facilities and shelters found in the community.
  • Dogs are housed in foster homes or the rescue’s facility at 510 NE MLK Blvd.
  • Supports all types of dogs and cats.

Project Pooch

  • Private, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue located in Lake Oswego, OR
  • Mission: To provide opportunities for youth in corrections to develop the personal and vocational skills they will need to become responsible, productive members of the community. The program accomplishes this by teaching youth to care for and train shelter dogs for adoption.
  • Supports all types of dogs and at-risk youth.
